Little River Park Groundbreaking Marks Start of Construction in Zebulon

ZEBULON, N.C. (Feb. 11, 2026) — The Town of Zebulon officially broke ground Wednesday morning on Little River Park, marking the start of construction on a long-planned parks and recreation project.

Town officials, staff and project partners gathered at the site to celebrate the launch of the project and highlight the park’s planned amenities and long-term benefits for the community.

Little River Park has been identified for years as a future community park within Zebulon’s long-range parks and recreation planning efforts. As the community has grown, the site has remained preserved for public use, with plans focused on balancing recreation, environmental stewardship and outdoor learning.

The park is designed to provide a wide range of recreational experiences in a natural setting while enhancing regional connectivity to meet the needs of current and future residents. The project reflects an intentional planning process informed by community input, technical analysis and preliminary design concepts.

Phase 1 construction includes:

  • Shelter and restroom building

  • New Park entrance and paved parking

  • Paved and unpaved walking trails

  • Natural classroom space

  • Native wildflower meadows

The project was designed by Alfred Benesch Co. and is being constructed by G&G Builders Inc. The total construction cost is $1,754,000 and is partially funded by a $500,000 grant from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2026.

Additional updates about Little River Park will be shared on the Town of Zebulon’s website and social media channels.
