ZEBULON, N.C. (March 18, 2026) — Andrea Peters, accountant II for the Town of Zebulon, has passed the comprehensive examination required for the Certified Local Government Purchasing Officer (CLGPO) program through the UNC School of Government.

Peters works in the finance department for the Town of Zebulon, a growing eastern Wake County community of 14,007 residents, where she supports the town’s financial operations and purchasing processes.

The CLGPO program prepares local government procurement professionals to navigate North Carolina’s purchasing laws, competitive bidding requirements, contract administration and ethical procurement practices. Participants must complete a series of specialized courses before qualifying to sit for the certification exam.

Over the past 18 months, Peters has balanced the program’s coursework and training requirements while continuing her day-to-day responsibilities with the town.

Passing the exam marks one of the final steps in the certification process. Peters is expected to complete the remaining requirements and earn the CLGPO credential later this year.

“Working toward the CLGPO certification over the past 18 months has been both challenging and rewarding,” said Peters. “I pursued this certification not only for professional growth, but because I care deeply about the Town of Zebulon and the citizens we serve. Strengthening procurement knowledge helps ensure we remain responsible stewards of public resources.”

Local government purchasing professionals play an important role in ensuring municipalities comply with state procurement laws and manage public funds responsibly. The certification program helps strengthen transparency, accountability and best practices in municipal purchasing.

Peters plans to continue expanding her professional training. In May, she will begin coursework through the North Carolina Certified Procurement Professional (NCP) program administered by the North Carolina Department of Administration. The program focuses on advanced procurement topics, including state purchasing laws, contracting methods and strategic purchasing practices.

Town officials said continued professional development among staff helps strengthen the town’s financial stewardship as Zebulon continues to grow.
