ZEBULON, N.C. — The Zebulon Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in the parking lot of a business located at 603 W. Gannon Avenue.
Officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of a robbery involving a firearm. During the incident, a suspect allegedly approached individuals who were inside a vehicle and displayed a firearm. A dog that was inside the vehicle was taken during the encounter before the suspect left the area.
The involved individuals later contacted law enforcement. The suspect subsequently returned to the location and was detained by responding officers. As a result of the investigation, Maleak Mitchell was charged with Armed Robbery.
The circumstances surrounding the dog involved in the incident remain under investigation. No additional details are being released at this time.
