ZEBULON, N.C. — The Zebulon Police Department has filed charges following a reported hostage situation at a residence on Channel Drop Loop.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Channel Drop Loop after receiving a report of an armed individual holding people against their will. Officers arrived at the scene and took the individual into custody without further incident. The incident was isolated, and thanks to the quick response of Zebulon police officers and assistance from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, Wendell Police Department, Knightdale Police Department and Rolesville Police Department, the situation was resolved with no injuries reported and no ongoing threat to the community.

Diego Alberto Rijo, 18, was charged with:

  • Two counts of first-degree kidnapping

  • One count of second-degree kidnapping

  • One count of assault with a deadly weapon

  • One count of assault by pointing a gun

  • One count of disorderly conduct

  • Two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile

  • One count of going armed to the terror of the people

The charges are allegations. Rijo is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
