🗺️ Do I live within the Town of Zebulon?

It’s a question we hear often. A Zebulon mailing address does not always mean your property is located within the Town’s corporate limits.
The 27597 mailing area includes parts of four counties: Wake, Johnston, Nash and Franklin. Mailing addresses are used for postal delivery and do not determine Town residency, municipal boundaries or which local government serves a property.

The Town’s Residential Map shows the corporate limits, Extraterritorial Jurisdiction, fire district, property boundaries and current and approved residential subdivisions. Here’s what each boundary means:

🔴 Zebulon Corporate Limits: These are the Town’s official boundaries. Properties within the corporate limits are subject to Town property taxes and receive applicable Town services. People who live within these boundaries are Town of Zebulon residents and may vote in Zebulon municipal elections if they are registered and otherwise eligible. The Zebulon Police Department’s primary jurisdiction is within the corporate limits. Areas outside the Town limits are generally served by the sheriff’s office in the county where the property is located, although law enforcement agencies may assist one another when needed.

🩷 Zebulon ETJ: The Extraterritorial Jurisdiction is outside the corporate limits but within the Town’s planning jurisdiction. Properties in the ETJ may be subject to certain Town planning and development requirements, but they are not within the Town limits.

🟡 Zebulon Fire District: The designated fire service area. The fire district extends beyond the Town limits, so receiving fire protection from Zebulon does not necessarily mean your property is within the Town.

🏘️ Residential Subdivisions: The map also identifies current and approved residential subdivisions. Some approved subdivisions may be under construction or may not have started construction.

Understanding these boundaries can help you know which government to contact, which services may be available and which requirements may apply to your property.

UPDATE: The water main repair on the 100 block of South Wakefield Street is complete, and the work area has been cleared. Traffic has returned to normal.

🚧 TRAFFIC ADVISORY | S. WAKEFIELD STREET

Raleigh Water’s Water Distribution Division is responding to a water main break at 102 S. Wakefield St. in Zebulon. Work is expected to be completed by approximately 3 p.m. today.

No water service interruption is anticipated at this time.

S. Wakefield Street will be closed at the work site, and a detour will be in place:

• Northbound traffic on Wakefield Street: Turn onto W. Vance Street, then N. Church Street, then W. Horton Street.

• Southbound traffic on Wakefield Street: Turn onto W. Horton Street, then N. Church Street, then W. Vance Street.

Appropriate traffic and detour signage will be in place throughout the work.

Please use caution in the area and allow extra time for travel.

Social District beverages must remain within the designated Downtown Zebulon Social District boundaries.

Look for the district map and posted signs while downtown. When you see an ‘Exiting the Social District’ sign, all alcoholic beverages must be consumed or properly disposed of before continuing beyond that point.

You must be 21 or older. Please drink responsibly.

Before entering a downtown business with a Social District beverage, check the window decal.

‘Welcome Here’ means approved Social District beverages are permitted inside.

‘Sold Here’ identifies a participating business where approved Social District beverages may be purchased.

‘Not Permitted Here’ means Social District beverages may not be brought inside.

If you do not see a decal, please assume that Social District beverages are not permitted and check with the business before entering.

Congratulations to Zebulon Commissioner Shannon Baxter on being selected to join the sixth cohort of the North Carolina Hunt State Policy Fellows.

This bipartisan program of The Hunt Institute brings together local elected officials from across North Carolina to engage in discussions about education policy. Participants will connect with state leaders, experts, educators and fellow policymakers while exploring strategies to strengthen education systems and improve student outcomes.

Commissioner Baxter will represent Zebulon as part of this statewide fellowship.
